The great thing about techno djs back in the 90s was, that they were part of the crowd.
Dancing behind the turntables on the same physical level, we all covered by darkness, smoke and strobelight. hardly anyone knew who is on the decks at that moment, and this anonymousity had some kind of magic. We, the people on the dancefloor, had the feeling of being one with the music and everybody else on the floor and we all together had a connection and the power to direct the sound in our imaginations and follow behind, wherever it did take us. Eyes closed enjoying the flight throught the night.
The longer the beat was running monotone, little variations had massive impact. Now look at this pic and let me know: Do you really need clowns jumping around in front of you to enjoy electronic music?
